Uzbekistan – Significant decrease in official fees as of January 1, 2025

As part of its efforts to becoming a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Uzbekistan adopted several legal acts to align its trade regime with WTO rules in various areas.

In the area of industrial property protection, the Senate approved legal changes to standardise the amount of official fees to be paid. Under these changes, which will come into effect as of January 1, 2025, all entities, whether resident in Uzbekistan or not, will pay the same amount of official fees.

As a result, foreign applicants will have to pay significantly lower official fees in the future. So, at present, foreign applicants pay an official fee of USD 470 for filing a patent application comprising one independent claim, while from January 1, 2025, only a fee of about USD 120 will have to be paid. The granting fees payable will decrease from currently USD 940 to about USD 240.

This means that once the above changes come into effect, the fees payable by foreign applicants will on average decrease by around 75 percent.
